Stela with a Seated Woman
(South Arabia)
This woman is seated on a folding stool with a cushioned seat. Her open left hand is raised in front of her face in a gesture of recitation, and her open mouth suggests that she is reciting a spell or prayer. Her right hand clasps a bundle of wheat or millet, which may represent a petition for food and fecundity. The inscription below the panel names the lady: Hywet of Meren clan.
